Private Practitioners Less Likely to Use Telehealth Tools

The American Medical Association recently published a policy report. In it, Dr. Carol Kane, Director, Economic and Health Policy Research, found that private practitioners do not use telehealth tools as often as practitioners in hospitals. See AMA Exhibit 3 below:

Dr. Kane found that over 60% of the physicians did not use telehealth tools because remote visits were not relevant to the work of the specialties of their practice. Another third of respondents stated that they preferred to treat patients in person. "Not sufficiently reimbursed" and "lack of interest from patients" were each cited by about 14% of physician respondents. See AMA Exhibit 5 below:

Use of telehealth tools by specialty was generally less used by private practitioners than hospital physicians except in psychiatry. See AMA Exhibit 4 below:
