Is Optum Real a Claims Game Changer?

Susan Morse, Executive Editor of Healthcare Finance (a publication of HIMSS Media) reported that Optum of United Healthcare is piloting Optum Real. Optum Real is a real-time artificial intelligence claims systems that offers faster reimbursement by connecting payers and providers in real time. Optum is running a test pilot with Allina Health, a health system serving 12 hospitals and more than 90 clinics across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The pilot program is getting tested for outpatient radiology and cardiology providers and patients. Optum claims that an estimated 84% of first-time denials are avoidable. During the pilot, Allina Health has realized fewer administrative errors and improvd patient experiences across more than 5,000 processed visits.
